I sat drinking with an American friend recently and without any hint of irony he tells me how proud he was when his President Obama grovelled, I mean reached out to, the muslim world. I read endless articles about how tough a time Obama is having. How we shouldn't be too hard on him. And one today which tells us he has has suffered through the worst first year of any US Presidency. Oh really. Worse than Bush in 2001 when America was attacked on home soil in what by any stretch of the imagination was a humungous act of war? Hell the first World War was started for way less. And then, finally, in my daily rounds Andy points out how the present US administration thinks the history of America starts with Obama and well (big shock) the rest of us suffering through this Islamic hell don't feature on the radar. Frankly, almost as little as our troops in Afghanistan register in the US media.
So. Two strikes huh.
Let's recap this last very Islamic decade.
2000
Al Qaeda suicide bombers strike the USS Cole killing 17 sailors
Bush is elected
2001
Islamist and Al Qaeda trained Richard Reid is prevented from detonating a shoe bomb on a US bound flight.
Nineteen Saudi Al Qaeda terrorists fly hijacked airliners into the World Trade Centre New York, killing almost 3000 people, thousands of Americans, other nationalities and 67 British.
2002
US citizen John Walker Lindh gets 20 years for fighting with the Taliban. The US government introduces colour coded security threat alerts following 9/11. Muslim Beltway snipers strike killing at least ten people in the DC area. Daniel Pearl is kidnapped and brutally murdered by Al Qaeda in Pakistan. Al Qaeda bombings at a Bali nightclub kill at least 200 including Australians, Europeans. Muslim Chechen terrorists seize a Moscow theatre which ends in fiasco and 120 dead hostages.
2003
Islamist terrorism reigns in Iraq, after the celebrated end of the Hussein regime, as the death toll for US and British soldiers mounts and warped Islamists wreak mindless bloody havoc on their own children.
2004
Islamic terrorists detonate bombs on Madrid commuter trains killing nearly 200 and seriously injure 2000. Muslim Chechen terrorists called the Caucasus Caliphate Jihad, take thousands hostage in a school in Baslan culminating in the brutal and bloody murder of hundreds of school children.
2005
Homegrown Al Qaeda Islamist terrorists detonate bombs on the London Underground and a London bus killing 50 and maiming and injuring many hundreds. Days later a second botched attempt on the Tube which has London on total lockdown ends in the storming of a building and arrest of 2 jihadis and the accidental gunning down by police of an innocent Brazilian man on the tube in a tragic case of mistaken identity.
2006
Israel finally declares war on Hitzb'allah, an Islamist organisation for which terrorism and jihad is the norm. German police arrest an Islamist in a foiled suitcase bomb attempt. 3 British muslims are arrested by British security after one of the largest surveillance investigations of its kind into a plot to blow up airliners using liquid explosives on transatlantic planes. Al Qaeda support groups openly declare support for jihad in Europe on London streets and praise the 9/11 attackers.
2007
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto declares her decision to stand again and is murdered by Al Qaeda
An Islamist group, led by a British based Al Qaeda general is arrested after British surveillance uncovers an extensive plot to blow up the nightclub Ministry of Sound and Bluewater shopping centres. In the Summer two men linked to Al Qaeda run a burning car loaded with propane gas into a Glasgow Airport terminal.
2008
Islamist terrorist attacks in Mumbai kill more than 170 people
Obama is elected
2009
Iran erupts following fraudulent elections and the Islamic Republic blaming The West, ruthlessly cracks down on its people, murdering citizens in the streets, imprisoning and torturing them.
Islamist Major Nidal Hassan murders 12 of his colleagues in Texas in an act of jihad.
At the end of the decade thousands of young British Asian men have been investigated or held by the British Security organisations with dozens put through the court system and prosecuted for inciting or attempted murder.
So. When will the Islamic world offer the West an apology?
And is that two strikes meant as in two strikes AFTER The Apology Obama offered? So.. what. Now you're cross?
Oh and I'm reminded of a comment on the Decent Left wing blog Harry's Place where years ago now at the height of the Iraq war for which Harry's Place always emphasised it's support, someone was mid argument with some rabid Bush hater and Iraq war opposer. He wondered who would follow Bush and how much fun it would be watching all the Bush haters quiver and reel when they realised the problems of the world didn't all disappear the minute Bush gave up his day job and headed back to his ranch.

Two thousand thank yous. One thousand for the linkage, and one thousand for rounding up all that info to back me up.

You pretty much summed it all up Andy. Obama sees himself as having ushered in the new modern American era which starts with him and his Apology to the muslim world and so everything before then doesn't count at all.

Obama is having a tough time because is wholly unqualified for the job he holds. In way over his head, with no way out. Thus the revisionists must get started early, lest history expose him for the fraud that he is.
While the hopeychangey folks still believe he is the annointed one, the rest of the populace is experiencing a well deserved case of buyers remorse.

“Frankly, almost as little as our troops in Afghanistan register in the US media. “
Alison,
This shouldn’t still be a shock to you, blogs are were it’s at (pointing that out to a blogger seems rather strange).
Try an excellent mil (military) blog that runs some really great stories about your boys occasionally -
http://www.blackfive.net/
Americans, at least the ones who stay informed, appreciate the UK’s commitment and sacrifice, along with all the other countries.
Now, when are ya’ll gonn’a get serious with the radicals right there at home?

I read a few military blogs Tim bit it's just not the same. It's outrageous your media doesn't cover our efforts at all. Or ISAF generally. Even the British media covers the full situation for ALL troops.
With all due respect Tim what do you propose we do
Arrest them - done
Convict them - done
Bar them - done
Let you know when one might blow up a plane - done
Spotlight the issues with Islam here - done
Challenge preconceived notions - done
The West does business with the Saudis and they are successfully exporting their crap globally and have us all cornered.
It's not my fault that Britain is so hated. It was well before this became an issue. Noone gave a crap then.

Whoa there Alison, I didn’t blame you, at least I didn’t mean to, for the UK soft glove handling of Muslim Extremists.
I’m not going to challenge or link to countering stories that disprove your list. You live there, if you feel everything is being done that can be done…fine. I’ve seen plenty that says otherwise.
A couple examples off the top of my head – a video of Bobbies running, yes running, away from Muslims protesting; some high ranking church official (sorry, can’t remember his name) constantly runs his mouth, such as “A little Sharia would be OK” and who is that Mayor (London?) who is so deep with the Muslims it’s not even funny. (He gave ambulances to friggin’ Hamas).
Anyways, at least you guys don’t have Pres. Obama. By the time he’s gone we’ll all be banging our foreheads 5 times a day on the pray rag, with beards down to our knees and our women in burkas.
Our media sucks, no argument there.
Have a good one.

We've been serious about terrorism on home turf since the 1970s starting with the IRA and when you guys were less than understanding about the wrongs of giving succour to terrorists. We haven't yet found all the answers and this is much harder.
The police "running away" incident was overhyped crock. They lost control of a potential riot and some muslim wise ass cracked a remark that bloggers successfully blew out of proportion. Sharia courts already exist in the US.
Yes there are serious issues. But, other than what ive listed and our brilliant security service, what is the answer in a democracy?
Politics would suggest people voting for the BNP. Is that the answer? You tell me 'cos thats where it's headed.
You have a good weekend too.

"...how much fun it would be watching all the Bush haters quiver and reel when they realised the problems of the world didn't all disappear the minute Bush gave up his day job..."
It's *still* all Bush's fault. The One doesn't EVER give a speech without blaming Bush for all the problems he "inherited." Ever. Which is getting *quite* old and has been for some time now but I don't foresee an end to it. As a matter of fact, I can see Obama blaming his failure to get re-elected in 2012 on Bush... it would follow, wouldn't it?
Nice chronology, Alison. Well done.
